Head of Security and Operations

Location: London, UK | Full-Time | Hybrid (1 day a week in office)

Our client, a fast-growing, innovative company, is looking for a Head of IT Operations and Security to ensure the seamless operation, continuity, and security of their IT environment—spanning both digital and retail. The Role

As Head of Security and Operations, you’ll be responsible for building and shaping this function from the ground up. You’ll provide centralized operational governance, ensure IT stability, and manage security risks—partnering with Engineering, Retail, and third-party specialists to ensure best practices and operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities

🔹 IT Operations Management

Oversee IT systems, networks, and services, ensuring optimal performance.
Develop and maintain IT operational processes, policies, and KPIs.
Manage maintenance schedules, vendor relationships, and SLAs.
Lead End User Computing support across digital and retail environments.
Establish a support framework for retail stores, working with engineering teams.

🔹 Business Continuity & Disaster Recovery

Develop, implement, and test business continuity and disaster recovery plans.
Identify critical systems and processes to prioritize recovery efforts.

🔹 Security Risk Management

Identify and mitigate IT security risks, ensuring compliance with best practices.
Implement security policies and procedures aligned with industry standards.
Collaborate with third-party security specialists for audits, assessments, and penetration testing.
Lead security training and awareness programs across the business.
Manage application support, partnering with the Head of Engineering to ensure effective issue tracking and resolution.

🔹 Leadership & Collaboration

Mentor and develop the IT operations team, fostering a culture of excellence.
Act as a trusted advisor to senior leadership on IT and security matters.
Work cross-functionally to align IT operations with business objectives.

What Our Client is Looking For

✅ Strong experience in IT operations leadership within a modern multi-channel retail business.
✅ Knowledge of cloud platforms (AWS, GCP) and modern IT operations practices.
✅ Ability to identify security risks and engage specialist expertise when needed.
✅ Experience in business continuity planning and disaster recovery.
✅ Skilled in vendor selection, contract negotiation, and SLA management.
✅ Familiarity with ITIL, ISO 27001, or NIST frameworks (certifications a plus, but not required).
✅ Strong leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
✅ A pragmatic approach to balancing budget, security, and operational efficiency.
