Reporting to the Head of IT (Infrastructure & Support), the Cloud FinOps Specialist will be responsible for implementing, managing and optimising Multi-Cloud financial operations. You will be responsible for monitoring cloud usage, analysing cost data, and implementing strategies to reduce spend while ensuring optimal cloud performance. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify areas of improvement and drive cost-saving initiatives
Responsibilities
- You will need to understand FinOps practices, methodologies, technologies, and applications. Enabling cost optimisation using FinOps tools across our AWS and Azure platforms.
- You will be responsible for Continuous Cloud cost monitoring to track cloud spend, set spending alerts and guardrails to prevent uncontrolled cloud spend, highlight irregular spending patterns and ensuring transparency with our Cloud spend.
- You will use your skills in cloud billing analysis, cost allocation and budgeting to Implement cost allocation mechanisms to attribute cloud costs to different departments or projects accurately.
- You will proactively identify and along with the technical teams implement Cost optimisation, management and best practises such as rightsizing resources, leveraging reserved instances, exploring new pricing models and billing tags.
- You will be responsible for making recommendations and providing option appraisals based on requirements, including the ability to challenge existing or proposed technical architectures to support decision-making for new projects and existing cloud expenditure
- You will establish and maintain reporting to provide real time business intelligence, providing self-service Dashboards to key stakeholders and provide additional analysis and recommendations to drive decision making.
- You will collaborate with key stakeholders, engaging with service owners, finance teams, engineering teams and Technology Senior Leadership team to implement changes, ensuring best practise and align cloud spending with business goals
- You will support the Technology Commercial Manager and Senior Leaders with forecasting, budget setting and manage cloud related costs for tech operational and Business Change
- You will build key relationships with finance business partners to manage cloud commercial risk and opportunities.
- You will build key relationships with key cloud platform vendors and partners to collaborate and maximise any vendor cost reduction opportunities.
- You must be able to communicate and effectively explain technical concepts and cloud cost models to non-technical stakeholders.
- You will need to understand Licensing / contracts and agreements to find opportunities to reduce licensing spend, whilst ensuring that we remain compliant with our licensing obligations.
Experience
Outline previous knowledge/ experience that is essential for the role
- 5 Years Experience working with either Microsoft Azure or AWS.
- Experience implementing and maintaining FinOps practices and methodologies, including knowledge of cost optimisation frameworks and experience using FinOps tools and platforms
- Experience building and maintaining data withing business intelligence tools to create interactive dashboards for stakeholders
- A strong understanding of cloud computing services including infrastructure and software as well as experience working with a major cloud services providers usage models and pricing
- Experience with Cloud Cost forensics, monitoring, reporting, billing, and analytics tools
- Experience with automation and data integration tools
